FACIAL IMPLANT SURGERY OVERVIEW (CHEEK/JAW/CHIN AUGMENTATION)
Facial implant surgery employs the use of biocompatible implants to permanently augment specific facial features, thereby correcting facial asymmetry and deficiencies resulting from the natural aging process, injury, or congenital conditions. Facial implant surgery is most often performed to enhance the chin, cheek, and/or jawline, as these facial structures benefit the most from the reconstructive, augmentative, or rejuvenating effects facial implants provide. Increasingly popular among men and women alike, facial implants facilitate the permanent creation (or restoration) of aesthetically desirable facial contours without requiring a secondary procedure on a different body part (as with autologous fat grafting), and can significantly improve the proportions, balance, and symmetry of the face and the facial profile.
With recent advances in facial implant technology, surgeons can now design uniquely customized implants by choosing from a broad range of implant sizes, styles, and materials. This improvement in customization allows for a more natural surgical outcome, and produces subtle enhancements without appearing obvious or overworked. To fully reap the benefits of these technological advancements, your facial implant surgery should be performed by a talented plastic surgeon who understands the subtle intricacies of facial proportions, and who can accurately predict how small changes to the cheek, jaw, or chin structures will impact your facial aesthetics as a whole.
At the Beverly Hills Aesthetic Surgical Institute, with office locations in Beverly Hills, Valencia, and Santa Clarita, California, Triple Board-certified Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon Dr. D. David Saadat’s impeccable reputation among both patients and doctors alike speaks for itself, and his vast surgical expertise is sought after by patients from all over the world who are seeking to permanently enhance their facial appearance with facial implant surgery.
BENEFITS OF FACIAL IMPLANT SURGERY
Whether your facial asymmetry/deficiencies are the result of an injury, aging, or genetics, facial implant surgery can help to improve the contours of your face in a number of ways, including, but not limited to:
- Restores lost volume to flat or recessed cheeks
- Improves the prominence and definition of the cheekbones
- Boosts depleted volume in the tear trough region
- Adds youthful fullness and lifted definition to the cheeks
- Expands the width of the lower third of the face to balance out any asymmetry
- Corrects an undefined or weak jawline, helping to create a clear transitional delineation between the neck and face
- Of particular benefit to male patients seeking a strong, masculine, angular jawline
- Augments the size and projection of a weak, sunken, or recessed chin
- Improves the overall balance, proportions and symmetry of the face
YOUR FACIAL IMPLANT SURGERY EXPERIENCE
During your initial consultation, Dr. Saadat will take the time to design a personalized treatment plan that seamlessly integrates your aesthetic preferences and desired surgical outcomes. Your facial implant surgical plan will incorporate the least invasive facial surgery techniques available in order to reduce the risk of complications and minimize your discomfort.
Jaw, cheek, and chin implant procedures can all be performed on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia, and involve similar surgical techniques and patterns. Facial implant surgery typically takes between 1-2 hours, unless it is performed in conjunction with complementary facial rejuvenation procedures, such as a brow lift or blepharoplasty (eyelid lift).
At the start of the procedure, Dr. Saadat will make a small, discreetly placed incision close to the implant insertion site (inside the mouth or in a facial crease). He will then create a pocket within the facial tissue, carefully insert the implant into the pocket, and adjust it to the optimal position. After closing the incision with sutures, Dr. Saadat will secure the implant with surgical tape or bandages to prevent the implant from shifting during the first phase of your recovery period, when there is likely to be some degree of facial swelling.
Most patients are able to gradually resume their normal activities within approximately one week of their procedure, and you will return to the office to have your stitches removed in 5-10 days (sutures placed in the mouth will dissolve on their own within this time frame). To facilitate a safe and successful recovery, you will be advised to recline in a face-up position at a 45 degree angle for at least one week, and you may be restricted to a soft diet for 7-10 days. You will also need to avoid strenuous physical activity for an additional 2-4 weeks to prevent trauma near the incision site.
