What is Sculptra?
Sculptra Aesthetic®(Sculptra®) is an FDA-approved injectable facial rejuvenation treatment derived from a biocompatible synthetic substance known as poly-L-lactic acid, which helps to gradually replenish your body’s depleted collagen levels, thereby improving the appearance of shallow, moderate, and deep facial wrinkles and folds, thus allowing patients to safely achieve a subtle, naturally-refreshed facial appearance.
Sculptra® is optimally formulated to address and correct the following cosmetic problems linked to aging, sun damage, and facial volume loss, including, but not limited to:
- Nasolabial Folds (“laugh lines,” “smile lines,” “parentheses”) : lines and creases running from the sides of the nose to the corners of the mouth
- Chin Wrinkles: these horizontal wrinkles extend across the chin, detracting from the appearance of one’s smile
- Oral Commissures (“marionette Lines”): lines that run straight downwards from the corners of the mouth
Maximum benefits from your Sculptra® treatments can typically be achieved with 3 treatment sessions spaced over the course of a few months. The injection process is generally brief and relatively painless (a local anesthetic can be administered when necessary), and most patients resume their normal activities immediately after treatment. Mild, temporary post-treatment side effects may include: redness, bruising, swelling, injection site pain, and/or bleeding.
The visible, skin-rejuvenating results of your Sculptra® treatment will become apparent within the first few weeks, and will continue to improve over the course of the next few months, as the second and third treatments are administered. Sculptra® delivers exceptionally long-term results that can last up to 2 years, and because poly-L-lactic acid is safely absorbed by the body and is not derived from human or animal components, no allergy testing is necessary prior to treatment.
Ancillary cosmetic skin treatments (i.e. laser skin resurfacing, chemical peels, microdermabrasion, Botox®, JUVÉDERM® XC) can be performed in conjunction with your Sculptra® injections for a more comprehensive facial rejuvenation
