Liposuction

Liposuction

Even if you exercise regularly and eat well, you may still have stubborn areas on your body that don’t respond the way you’d like them to. Liposuction can help you achieve the body of your dreams, removing fat deposits on specific areas (for instance, belly, thighs, male breasts) and enhance facial procedures such as a face lift by removing fat from under the chin.

Liposuction is a good alternative to plastic surgery, however, it can’t remedy dimpled skin on the legs and buttocks which lacks elasticity. During liposuction, the excess fat is suctioned out of your body; you might need to wear a compression wrap following the procedure to reduce swelling and make the most of your new shape. Recovery time is generally less than a week.

Taking good care of yourself, eating right, exercising, and getting enough rest, is vitally important to your personal health and well-being. But sometimes, you can do all the right things and the Battle of the Fat Bulge still doesn’t budge, no matter how hard you work on it.All those hours at the gym can’t always change what Mother Nature — and even our own mothers — gave us to begin with . . . unsightly fat deposits!

Along with our body types, we also inherit the number of fat cells we have. While you can decrease the amount of fat in each cell through diet and exercise, the actually number of fat cells in your body can never be reduced no matter how hard you try. For that to happen, you need a little professional help.

Liposuction — or liposuction Surgery — is a body-sculpting procedure that targets specific pockets of unwanted, unresponsive fat cells and removes them. When performed on healthy men and women, who are within their ideal weight range, the results are a slimmer, firmer, more contoured appearance with long-term results.

Is Liposuction Right For You?

Cosmetic Liposuction is not right for everyone. It is not intended to help people lose weight nor to cure obesity but rather to remove unwanted fat deposits on primarily healthy people who eat right and exercise regularly. The long-term success of the Liposuction procedurelies as much with the patient as with the physician, so being healthy both before and after the surgery can make all the difference in the results. In your initial consultation, your surgeon can best determine if you are a good candidate for Liposuction and, if there are weight concerns, also make recommendations for an effective diet and nutrition program for you to follow.

liposuction Surgery is often performed on several areas of the body at the same time so, if you’re seriously considering Liposuction, the areas most often treated are:

  • The abdomen and waist area;
  • Inner and outer thighs;
  • Inner knees;
  • Hips and buttocks;
  • Calves and ankles;
  • Inner arms;
  • The breast or chest area, especially for men;
  • The chin and neck area.

Liposuction is a very safe procedure with minimal scarring and excellent results. The process selectively removes fat from only the specific areas where reduction is desired, and since the fat cells are actually removed from the body, the results are permanent as long as you maintain your post-operative weight.

While deciding whether or not this is the right procedure for you, remember that, although Liposuction is a very common, very popular procedure, it still requires the most skilled surgical hands and hours of delicate precision work to artistically sculpt and naturally contour the surgical areas.

What Happens During the Liposuction Procedure?

With a traditional Liposuction procedure, a tiny incision is made in the area to be treated and a small tube, called a cannula, is inserted into the fullest part to extract the excess fat cells. With advanced technologies, the procedure has improved greatly, offering patients better results and quicker, safer recovery times.

Today most Liposculpture Surgeries use a water technique called tumescent. A medicated solution is injected into the fatty areas before the extraction process begins. This solution, which is composed of saline and several drugs, helps control pain, reduce blood loss, and diminish the amount of swelling and bruising following surgery.

Because there is little risk involved in the procedure, Liposuction can generally be performed on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia and a mild sedative. In your initial consultation with Dr. Saadat, you can discuss in greater detail, the procedure, the surgical facility, and specifically what type of sedation might be best for you.

Depending on the exact procedure being scheduled, your surgery will usually take from one to three hours. If Liposuction is being performed along with other cosmetic procedures, such as a tummy tuck or a face lift, the surgery time will take longer. As with all surgeries, you should avoid aspirin and alcohol for several weeks both before and after your surgery.

Recovering From Liposuction Surgery

Everyone’s different . . . and everyone’s recovery is different, too. For the first few days, you should be as quiet and restful as possible with limited movement. In almost all cases, pain will be controlled with over-the-counter medication, but should you experience redness, severe pain, or an elevated temperature, call your doctor immediately.

A support garment will be put on you immediately following surgery to protect the surgical areas and to limit swelling and bruising. Your doctor will determine how long it should be worn, but generally it’s around two weeks. Depending on the extent of your surgery, most swelling and bruising will start to go away after a week or two. You may, however, be able to go back to work within a few days or a week, again depending on the extent and location of your surgery. Sutures, stitches, clips, and/or staples that have been inserted during surgery will normally be removed within about a week following surgery.

Normal activities may be resumed after about two weeks but strenuous activity or heavy lifting should be avoided for several weeks particularly if you have high blood pressure. Wait for your doctor to tell you when it’s okay to go back to your “regular life”. Make sure to schedule and go to your follow-up exams, as it’s very important to monitor the healing process. Also make sure that you take it easy and listen to your body throughout the entire recovery period . . . you’ll heal better and faster if you do.
