ADVANCED FLUORESCENCE TECHNOLOGY (AFT) photofacial
Photoaging is the visible manifestation of skin damage caused by unprotected sun exposure, the natural aging process, hormonal shifts, lifestyle factors, and/or genetics. A multitude of undesirable aesthetic issues fall under the general category of “photoaging,” all of which can significantly detract from one’s overall facial aesthetics and create a tired, haggard appearance.
IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) Photofacials are non-invasive, light-based skin rejuvenation services that harness the power of low-energy, short-pulse broadband light to treat signs of photoaging and skin damage. photofacial (a.k.a. fotofacial, photo rejuvenation) treatments help restore youthfully smooth, even-toned skin, and are a gentler alternative to ablative laser treatments, which can rip pores open and delay skin healing.
There are a number of photofacial workstations to choose from; however, triple board-certified Facial Plastic and Reconstructive surgeon Dr. D. David Saadat chose to equip each of the Beverly Hills Aesthetic Surgical Institute’s three office locations (Beverly Hills, Valencia, and Santa Clarita, California) with the Advanced Fluorescence Technology (AFT) handpieces from Alma Lasers’ Harmony®XL laser. Dr. Saadat selected this system because AFT represents the next generation of intense pulsed light and has a proven track record producing outstanding clinical results with high patient satisfaction rates.
AFT photofacial BENEFITS
AFT is distinctive because it delivers Equally Distributed Fluence, which facilitates uniform energy output, thus ensuring consistent results while minimizing patient discomfort and preventing damage to the delicate facial skin.
Photofacials performed with the AFT handpieces are ideally suited to address and resolve common textural problems and pigmentation defects associated with photoaged skin, including, but not limited to:
- Aged, dry, or leathery skin
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Enlarged pores and acne
- Acne scars
- Broken capillaries (benign vascular lesions) and dilated blood vessels (telangiectasia)
- Sun-damaged and photo-aged skin, which may present as:
- Solar Lentigenes (“sun spots”): typically found on the face, arms, hands, shoulders, and chest
- Solar lentigos (“age spots,” “liver spots”): refers to small areas of abnormal pigmentation on the hands, arms, and face (and on the backs of men). The term “liver spots” can be misleading because these skin imperfections are not associated with liver malfunction, but are actually a direct result of unprotected exposure to UV rays.
- Skin dyschromia (pigmentation abnormalities)
- Melasma (brown or gray/brown patches on the face)
- Hyperpigmentation (areas of darkened skin)
- Hypopigmentation (areas of lightened skin)
YOUR photofacial EXPERIENCE
Your AFT photofacial can safely be performed in the comfort of the Beverly Hills Aesthetic Surgical Institute in as little as 15-30 minutes. Because there are no wounds to heal, patients may immediately return to their regularly scheduled activities after their treatment. If necessary, makeup can be used to easily conceal any temporary post-treatment redness, which should subside within one hour.
Although you will see visible improvements in the appearance of your skin shortly after your initial photofacial session, your results will continue to progress over the course of the next few weeks. We have found that the revitalizing effects of photofacial treatments can be optimized and extended with a treatment course that consists of 3-5 sessions spaced at 3-week intervals.
